The crystal structure of barium sulfate is similar to that of lead sulfate. Barium sulfate can be used as the crystal nucleus of lead sulfate, a discharge product of the negative electrode, to prevent the formation of a lead sulfate passivation layer covering the electrode. Silver sulfate is dispersed in the active material to maintain a high porosity of the negative electrode. Increase the real surface area of the negative, reduce the tendency of spongy lead crystal particles to bond and shrink, improve the discharge performance of the negative plate, extend battery life.
